About

Fremington Quay is a historic quayside on the Taw estuary in North Devon, a few miles downstream from Barnstaple and tucked into the southern shore of the Taw–Torridge estuary. The estuary is tidal with a challenging bar at the entrance — one of the more demanding on the Bristol Channel coast — and requires careful timing on the flood. Once inside, the broad upper estuary is scenic and peaceful, with saltmarsh, bird life and the Tarka Trail cycling and walking route running along the old railway line past Fremington Quay.
