About
Port Argelès-sur-Mer sits at the southern end of the Gulf of Lion on the Roussillon coast, just north of the Spanish border and the Cap Leucate headland. The marina is one of the most southerly on the French Mediterranean coast and a natural staging post for passages to and from Catalonia and the Spanish costas. The sailing conditions here can be testing: the Tramontane wind accelerates off the Pyrenees and creates steep, short seas in the Gulf of Lion, particularly in spring and autumn. In settled weather the scenery is spectacular — the Pyrénées fall almost directly into the sea behind the town. Stern-to Med mooring is standard. Good facilities and provisioning for a full stopover.
