Porto de Peniche is a major fishing harbour and sailing waypoint on Portugal's Atlantic coast, 80km north of Lisbon. The town sits on a dramatic peninsula jutting into the Atlantic, offering good shelter in its enclosed harbour. Berlengas Island — a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve — lies just 12nm offshore and is an extraordinary wildlife sanctuary with outstanding diving. Peniche is famous as one of Europe's premier surfing destinations and a key stop for boats rounding Cape Roca.
