Lipari is the main island of the Aeolian archipelago north of Sicily, an active volcanic chain offering some of the Mediterranean's most dramatic sailing. The surrounding islands — Stromboli (active volcano), Vulcano (therapeutic mud baths), and the remote Filicudi and Alicudi — form one of the Med's finest island-hopping circuits.
