WorldMarinaGuide

A berth in one marina. A welcome in all of them.

A membership network for marinas and the boaters who keep a berth with them. Hold an annual berth at a member marina and you get discounted visitor nights at every other member marina in the network — and their berth-holders get the same with you.

How it works

  1. 1. A marina joins. Its annual berth-holders become members automatically — nothing for them to apply for.
  2. 2. Members get a card. It is earned by holding a berth, not bought, and it lapses when the berth does.
  3. 3. They cruise. The card is spent on visitor nights at other member marinas, at a member rate, for a capped number of nights a year.
  4. 4. Everyone gains twice. A retention perk for the berth-holders a marina already has, and visitor revenue from berth-holders it does not.

Why a marina joins

It works on day one

The benefit is something you hand your existing berth-holders immediately. It does not depend on anyone sending you enquiries first.

Visitors, not tyre-kickers

A member arriving on the card already keeps a boat somewhere and pays for a berth every year. They are the visitor most likely to come back.

Nothing to install

No software, no integration, no change to how you take bookings. Membership is a card and a list.

It has been proven elsewhere

Networks of this shape have run in European marinas for years. What has not existed is one that spans the long tail rather than a closed circle of large operators.

What it costs a marina

£350 per year — and no joining fee

One fee for the marina, however many berth-holders you have. Your annual berth-holders become members automatically — there is nothing for them to buy, and nothing for you to administer beyond checking a code when a member boat arrives.

The established European network of this shape charges £335 a year plus £435 to join — £770 in year one. Ours is £350 a year with no joining fee, so your first year costs less than half of theirs.

Where this is up to

The network is being formed now, and we are recruiting its founding marinas. It is not live yet, there is no card in anyone's wallet, and we are not going to pretend otherwise — a network is worth nothing until it has real density in a real cruising ground, so we are building it one ground at a time rather than claiming a map.

You do not pay for a network that does not exist yet. The first marinas in a cruising ground carry the risk of joining before it has any density, so nothing is payable until your ground is live — and then it is £350 a year, with no joining fee, ever. If you already subscribe to BerthFinder for berth enquiries, it is £250 a year for as long as you do. If you run a marina and this sounds like something your berth-holders would use, we would like to hear from you early.
